The Arguments About Open Space, Debt, and Taxes Are Really About Airport Expansion

Readington Township Committeemen Broten and Tropello have claimed that “we have enough” open space, that township debt is excessive due to open space, and tax rates are higher in Readington than in nearby townships due to the burden of open space preservation.

These are false issues. Persuading voters that debt is excessive and taxes are higher due to open space preservation is intended to persuade residents to abandon the current attempt to preserve the land around the airport as open space, which is the only method the town has to prevent airport expansion.
