How Big Can It Get?

*Note that operations/year and number of based aircraft for Solberg are the most recent reported, and would presumably increase should an expansion occur.

*In subsequent negotiations, the Solbergs reduced their request to 500,000 square feet of hangar/office space.

How Big Disclosed By Solbergs In 2005 Negotiations

How big could an expanded Solberg Airport be? The Solberg’s told us how big they thought the airport should be in negotiations with Readington Township in 2005.

On January 17th, 2006, Readington Township held a public meeting where Township officials briefed residents on negotations with the Solbergs to purchase the open space surrounding the airport. According to Committeeman Frank Gatti, the Solbergs proposed in the negotiating session of 22-September-2005 that the main runway be expanded to 5,600 feet to handle jet traffic, with 1,000,000 square feet of hangar/office space sited on 100 acres within the 725-acre property.

For comparison of the area under roof proposed as hangar/office space, consider that Bridgewater Commons Mall (all 3 floors spread out side-by-side) contains 900,000 square feet (about 20 acres) of leasable space.

For comparison of the runway lengths with nearby general aviation airports, see the table below comparing the proposed expanded Solberg with Morristown and Teterboro, two nearby general aviation airports.
