At the September 6th Readington Township Committee meeting, Mayor Betty Ann Fort announced that the pending contract sale of the former Merck headquarters property on Route 523 to LHR Group was voided. Essentially, the property is back on the open market. Broker Cushman Wakefield will actively be looking for a buyer of the property. This information was discovered in a Merck court legal filing and not formally transmitted to Readington Township.
In July of 2015, the Readington Planning Board increased the approved uses for all properties in the Township with a Research Office zoning designation. The expanded permitted uses include hotel, conference enter, restaurant, spa resort and removed places of assembly as an accessory use. There be a mix of any or all of these potential uses.
In addition, the Township has met with the NJ Business Action Center to attempt to attract a new tenant. While Readington, Hunterdon County and the State can provide incentives and direction to attempt to lure a new occupant, any deal that will eventually happen will be between two private parties.
Citizens for Readington supports Readington Township upholding its zoning that allow for quality ratables that are beneficial to Readington and appropriately fit into our town.
